Christmas

Dear family and friends,

This last week was really good! We got a lot of things done and we were able to learn a lot of things.
We had to drop a lot of our investigators and start over because they weren't progressing also I did two exchanges and had the opportunity to talk with my family! Also, we were able to receive a ton of referrals from members and we ate a ton of tamales!  We are almost done with this transfer and of course changes are on the horizon. As we head into the new year my goal is to be even more dedicated to the gospel to be even more hard working and to not be distracted. I want to truly grow and progress in the gospel and I invite all of you to do the same. When we are able to do this then we realize the important things of life and why we are here and who we should be serving.
I love you all Happy New Year!

Christmas party week!

Dearest family and friends,

This last week nothing too exciting happened just our mission Christmas party. There were a lot of great talents and I actually participated!

The work is going really good! We are finding new investigators and lots of good things are happening. We are finding new things to do to find and teach and it's working great! We aren't having anyone that is really progressing, but we will keep our efforts strong to keep finding people!

We also had our ward Christmas party where we dressed up as the three wise men and pastores (shepherds) and we danced to some really catchy Spanish Christmas songs!

Then on Sunday I got asked to speak at the last minute about how the mission has changed my life. I took a minute to think about that and it really has changed my life for the better! I know that I am much more patient and loving and more humble and a lot of things. I can definitely still improve but I am noticing that I am progressing in the gospel and it is very exciting to see! Umm really other than that nothing really happened just still doing the Lord's work and I'm happy to do it! I hope all of you are doing well and are having a great Christmas season!

I love you all!

The ninos the navidad and the new companion

Dear family and friends,

Well this last week was really great! We started with a really good noche de hogar with the Gonzalez family. The other elders are actually teaching them but Elder Mendoza was waiting for his new companion from the MTC so the three of us taught together. It was really good and the mom actually told us last Sunday that it was a good noche de hogar so that was cool!
Tuesday, we got Elder Mendoza's new companion and met members so that Elder Markham could get to know them better.
Wednesday, we taught a bunch and we found these 4 ninos who are the non-member grandkids of an hermana in our ward. We showed them an object lesson about faith and they were hooked! It was really cool and they wanted us to come over every day! haha!
Then we are practicing to be in the Christmas program in the ward. We are going to be shepherds and the three kings.
Thursday, was a really great zone meeting. We learned that we have been teaching the wrong way. We need to focus on the atonement and on baptism every lesson. We need to help people feel Godly sorrow so they can feel the need and know the why to get baptized. That was really inspired. Then we taught some more and put that into practice and it worked really well!
Friday, we taught the ninos again. They waited for us to come which was pretty great! Then we did splits with some of the young men in our ward.
That's what happened to me this last week. It was really good and we are using what we learned and applying it. It is working really well; it is really showing people the why and making it so that we really teach people a principle and not just a lesson which is really cool.
Well, I love you all and I hope your having a good Christmas time!

Love, Elder Reisner

Elder Reisner is feeling much better! He injured his rotator cuff and is doing some exercises to recuperate. Thank you all for the many prayers offered!

Missionary Miracles

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was good. The highlights are that we found four really good new investigators! One actually came to us when we were teaching a recent convert and he went to our sports night that we had. There were 3 recent converts and our investigator who came from our area so that was really great!
I went on two exchanges this last week with Elder Eddington and Elder Knight. These were really good and I learned a lot from both of them.
On Saturday we were heavily involved as crowd control in a Christmas parade. That was fun and there were a lot of cool floats and things in the parade. My camera broke so I wasn't able to take any pictures at the parade.
Also, we went to a despedida (farewell) for all the missionaries that are going home. I was able to go because I was finished training Elder Mostert and one of our elders in the district was going home. That was a really powerful experience and we felt the spirit very strongly!
This last week was transfers and I am staying in my area but Elder Mostert left so I was very sad about that. My new companion seems good his name is Elder Markam I am sure we will get along great. Well I hope all is well with you sorry this is so short but I ran out of time!
I love you all!
Love, Elder Reisner

As a missionary mom and with my Priesthood holders permission I wanted to share more about Elder Reisner's week and really why his letter was so short this time. On Wednesday he fell off of his bike and he thought that he broke something in his arm. He and his companion had an appointment with an investigator so he took some deep breaths and they walked the rest of the way there. After the appointment they stopped at a members home so he could clean himself up and call Sister Becerra (Mission President's wife). She called Dr. Peterson who is a counselor in the mission presidency in Arcadia. Of course the doctor called Elder Reisner right back and had him do a few things with his arm everything was super painful so he thought for sure that something was broken. Dr. Peterson told him he could either go to the E.R. or do a Boy Scout fix and wait for the next day to go to an Instacare. He elected for the Boy Scout fix and waiting for the next day. The Instacare x-rays showed that he had dis-located his shoulder and broke his collar bone. He was then referred to an orthopedic doctor to get everything fixed and back in place. Friday when he went to see the orthopedic doctor he said that he didn't break anything! He even took more and different x-rays but he could see no break!! Elder Reisner joked that he was jealous of his dad and Conner going to the Emergency Room and so he just wanted a turn in California! Of course he is still in a lot of pain and won't be able to ride his bike for a few weeks, but what a miracle!!
He said that 2 days later and I am not sure exactly 2 days later from what day but it all happened this last week, he was bit by a dog! It was a pitbull and it bit him on his hand. The owner was outside and so Elder Reisner asked him if the dog had rabies. They said no and were quite rude about it when it was their dog who bit him! (go figure)
I chose to share these experiences with you because our missionary and all of them are truly blessed. Both of these experiences could have turned out so differently but he is being watched over and protected. He ended his letter to us with "I am not sad or anything or discouraged. Don't worry about me I will be just fine! I know that trials are for our growth and for us to learn."
Keep praying for all of our missionaries!

A CRAZY WEEK!

Dear Family and Friends,

This last week was super crazy and it just was crazy because a lot of things happened!
Tuesday we went to the doctor because I got a spider bite or MRSA or both at the same time. My infection was HUGE it hurt a lot but I am doing much better now.  We still found time to talk to some people and did some finding.
Wednesday was pretty normal and we were able to do some service and teach.
Thanksgiving Day was crazy! We had an appointment to see our recent convert Dianna. We had a nice visit with her and helped her family prepare their Thanksgiving dinner. Then we went to our first Thanksgiving dinner appointment. On the way there I got a flat tire so of course we were late because we had to get a ride and it took awhile for them to pick us up. Dinner was good we had all the normal fixings. Then we went to our second dinner which was really really good. We had it with the Gonzalez family and it felt like we were at home with our own families. It was a really good time with them!
Friday we had a conference with Brad Wilcox who is a well known teacher at BYU and was a Mission President in Chile. We actually have his daughter in our mission right now. She is waiting for her Visa to go to Spain. President Becerra asked him to come teach us and it was super amazing!! We learned a lot!! One thing was about how literally our job right now is no matter what tribe of Israel that we are we need to gather the rest of the house of Israel and their specific oracles will be revealed later. He taught us that as most of us are of the tribe of Ephraim and Manasseh that Ephraim is building the eternal things and Manasseh the spiritual things. It was really cool to learn all that he had for us! (On a mom side note I hope that I got this information right! Elder Reisner gets typing so fast and doesn't have time to spell check or re-read what he has typed and so sometimes I have a hard time interpreting. So, if I got this wrong please forgive me!)  Then after that I went on exchanges with Elder Smith who is leaving soon. He taught me a lot!
Sunday we had the primary program at church. It was a great program but really different to hear it in Spanish. The songs in Spanish almost seem better than they do in English sometimes!
So, that was my crazy week! It was a good one and we had a lot of good things happen but I am excited for this week because I know things are going to start to get even better!

2 weeks of great stuff!!

Dear Family and Friends,

I'm sorry that I have not written for 2 weeks. Last week I had a bunch of meetings and exchanges and so I was not able to e-mail. I'll try to make up for it by telling you about the two past weeks of the mission! So for the week of November 5 - 11th it was a great week!
We found some people and on Tuesday I went on an exchange with Elder Mendoza from Spain. He is a great missionary and he taught me a lot of things.
The most significant thing that happened that week is that we had Zone Conference which was really great! We focused all about finding and that we don't knock on doors anymore. We rescue and we find we look at everything as a finding activity.
Sister Becerra taught us about how we can use the baptismal service as a way to find. She said that we should have our investigator invite literally everyone they can to the baptism. They will have a lot of non-member friends and family and that will be a great place for them to have a spiritual experience. She also said there always needs to be refreshments so that we can talk with people afterwards.
President Becerra taught us about how we need to talk with people and not at people. He said we need to ask EVERYONE for referrals. Who do they know that can benefit from the message? We need to be natural in sharing the gospel. It should be natural when we talk to people and not just teach them a lesson. We also learned we need to build our own faith and testimony. We can only help people become converted to the point that we are converted. We also learned about praying for another witness to what we already know. President Becerra told us that he went to the sacred grove when he was on a business trip. He knelt down in the grove and prayed for another witness. He said I know this is true but please let me have just one more witness that this gospel is true. It was really cool and I learned a lot!
We also taught Seminary. The kids seemed to like it and we actually had a non-member there!
This last week was also great! On Monday we had a good day and taught.
Tuesday we had meetings until 3 o' clock. In these meetings I learned the difference of being a good leader and being a popular leader. Aaron in the Old Testament was a popular leader whereas Moses was a good leader. Aaron subjected himself to the people and built the golden calf for them. He knew that it was wrong so he said let's have Sacrament Meeting that will make up for what I did wrong. But the people just started back up doing bad things.
I also learned more ways to find and more ways to be a better leader and trainer for missionaries. With all the new missionaries coming in we need more trainers!  I also went on exchanges with the Zone Leaders and learned a lot from Elder Garcia. We did service and participated in a Thanksgiving play for the ward. We had a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. It was a really good week. We keep finding and teaching, we are hoping to help people get baptized this week. It looks like it is going to be a really good week so I am excited!!

November - It's still warm and the work is progressing

Dear family and friends,

This last week was a really good week! We started off by visiting members to get to know them to help us find more investigators. We also taught a Family Home Evening which felt really good.
Tuesday we taught a bunch and we worked with less actives as well. We also brought a member to a lesson with Brian and the lesson turned out really well! Brian really seemed to connect with the member so that was awesome!
Wednesday we dressed up for Halloween! We dressed up as missionaries!! We actually taught some people and found a new investigator. Then because of Halloween that night we had district meeting and we were allowed to have a little volleyball activity for an hour. It was a great meeting and the zone leaders taught us a new thing that we can do with members that I think will really help the work to progress in our zone!
Thursday I went on exchanges with Elder Mclwain and we taught some people and found some investigators. We also got lost because he has a huge area! We also worked with members and did some service which was really great!
Friday was a good day. We had a really good weekly planning session so we could plan how we were going to put into practice the things we learned in district meeting. We also found 2 new investigators! Also, we taught a family how to help us better the missionary work!
Saturday we taught and found and worked with less actives and had correlation.
Sunday was a great day. Brian came to church! Also, every single less active except for one that we have been working with came to church too! A part member family that we worked with came to church also so it was really a miracle! We also had some member baptisms. We are still getting to know some more members so they can start helping us to find as well! We also were asked to teach Seminary this Friday I am so excited! We got to teach the youth class for Sunday School that was really fun as well! I am really excited this week because we have a lot of good stuff planned! We are going to work really hard to teach find and baptize! I hope that all of you are doing well!

Rimgrove - the first week

Dear family and friends,

This week was a great week here in the Rimgrove area! I started getting to know my new companion and we get along super great and we are going to do some good here in this ward!
We started Monday by visiting some members and building trust with them so they can give us referrals to teach more people.  Just when I thought I couldn't love any other members then I met these families and I know I will be able to love the members of this ward!
Tuesday we taught Brian and Diana which are our only investigators. (not for long) Dianna was baptized two weeks ago and Brian is pretty close to getting there! We also had appointments with some less actives and we went by mutual to meet more of the members.
Wednesday we worked with less actives and we taught Brian again. We invited him to be baptized and he said yes! We have his baptismal date set for November 11th which is very exciting!
Thursday we had district meeting which was good. We talked about the area book again. The Zone Leaders announced that we get to participate in a Christmas parade as missionaries on December 1st which is pretty exciting!  We also visited less actives and contacted a bunch of people on the street.
Friday we studied and did weekly planning and tried to visit less actives but found out that they moved so we just contacted people. We found some great people and we had a noche de hogar with a family which turned out really well!
Saturday we had a soccer activity and taught some lessons with Brian and had correlation meeting.
Sunday was a great day! Dianna got confirmed in Church (one of the investigators we had in Rimgrove) so now she is a recent convert who has a solid testimony of the church! We also had a meeting where this family is super excited to work with us. They want us to help get more people doing family history work. Then as they do their family history it will help us to find investigators using that way.  It was out of the blue and cool to see people excited about that! Then we had Maria's baptism back in San Gabriel. It was really spiritual and I was so blessed to have found her and to be able to perform the baptism ordinance!  In the baptismal service Maria bore her testimony and it is so strong and she knows the gospel is true! The ward loves her and has already assigned her visiting teachers and home teachers which is good. We also had 2 musical numbers 3 testimonies and 2 talks it was a lot for a baptism but it was all really good! We had 2 lessons after the baptism so it was a full day. I love this area it's going to be a really great area and I am excited to work with these new members and love them as well! But I love all of you and I hope you have a great week!

Rimgrove

Dear family and friends,

Well, I got transfered!! Not only that but I am now District Leader of a district with 10 missionaries! So it's a little crazy but I know that this is where I'm needed. I am excited to help all of these elders and sisters! There are 8 elders and 2 sisters so that means I need to do 6 exchanges!! It should be interesting/fun!! My new area is called Rimgrove Central and it's in La Puente California. My new companion is still new so I am also training! His name is Elder Mostert and he is from South Carolina. He seems cool and I think we'll get along great! I was really sad to leave. I was in San Gabriel for 7 1/2 months which is really unusual but I felt like I did all that I could to help the work progress. That area is a lot different from what it used to be when I first got there! I took a bunch of pictures with the members and I will try to send you those as soon as possible! I will be able to go back for Patty and Sergio's baptism, that will be a very exciting day! Also, Maria an investigator that we found and gave to the sisters is getting baptized! She asked me to baptize her and I am super excited!!!  We had a really good week this last week and I'm really excited to be in this new area. It's still a bike area but it's a lot smaller!

Last week was a crazy week and a good week we started off by finding and teaching Monday.
Tuesday we had our lesson with the Trejo family and President Becerra came with us. They are having some struggles and we are trying to help them as much as we can. Elder Carvajal and his new companion will be working with them on that.
Wednesday was pretty normal just finding and more finding!
Thursday we had a really good district meeting about the area book and it made me want to update our area book more than I had been doing in the past.
Friday we had weekly planning.
Saturday was a crazy day! We biked at least 30 miles or more but we had 5 lessons that day so it was super good! We also found two new investigators that have a lot of potential!
Sunday I said bye to the members and to Patty and Sergio.
San Gabriel was a really good area and I felt like I learned a lot by being there but I am excited for this new area and all the new things and the new challenges and experiences!
I am grateful to be serving Heavenly Father and to be a missionary!  I know that this work really cannot be stopped.  I love you all and I hope you have a good week!

A Busy Week!

Dear Family and Friends,

This last week has been busy! We had a bunch of meetings and a bunch of things that happened!
Tuesday, we had a lesson with the Mancilla family and we were helping our ward mission leader start a business.
On Wednesday we did a bunch of finding and something that we found that is better than knocking on doors is just biking around and getting off the bike to stop and talk to people. This is way more effective because it's harder for the people to run away or slam the door! We talked to a lot more people then we usually do! Then we went to an investigator's house the Jimenez family. They are a family of 7 and we got there just in time to help them move in these brand new couches that they just got which was really cool. They were telling us that we came at just the right time which felt really good! We are excited to teach this family, we  think they could help the ward out really well! We also had dinner with some members and a lesson with the Trejo family about faith that they can have more faith to go to church and do the things they need to do to get baptized.
Thursday we had district meeting and did finding. Thursday was a funny day because it looked like it might rain but we thought it wouldn't rain and we'd be fine. So we left our apartment wearing all normal clothes. Everything was going fine but I felt like we should go to the next appointment we had. On the way there it started raining super heavily and we got soaking wet! We got so wet that we couldn't get any more wet! So we arrive to this appointment and we are soaking wet! The guy wasn't even there but his mom was and she was laughing because we were so wet! We had to take a picture of it because it was that funny! (he hasn't sent me the picture yet but I will be sure to post it when he does!!)  We had to go home and change clothes of course! Thankfully one of the members Hermano Reyes was inspired and asked if we needed a ride we said yes please!! Then we were able to stay dry the rest of the day!
Friday we had Elder Coorbridge of the Seventy come and speak to us it was a long meeting 9-5! The first part was really great and I learned a lot the second part was really confusing and the message that he was trying to get us to understand was super confusing! I tried to get as much as I could from the meeting though. We also taught some lessons after the mission tour.
Saturday we did everything we could to get people to go to church. We called them we visited them and we made sure there were people available to give rides if people needed them. We got 4 investigators to church but we really wanted the Trejo family to come but we don't know why they didn't come!!
Sunday was great we had an amazing testimony meeting!  I taught Gospel Principles and we played Jeopardy about the standard works. Then we checked on our investigators that didn't come to church. We taught some lessons and set up some other lessons but yeah it was a good week!
Something really amazing is that when we went to teach Patty and Sergio they basically taught us! We hardly said anything in the lesson; they are just so ready to be baptized!!! I hope I get to stay here for another transfer. I am not sure that I will because I have been here for 7 1/2 months and usually missionaries don't stay in their first area that long. We will see what happens on October 20th! Anyway, I love you all and I hope you all have a good week!

General Conference Week - GREAT!!

Dear family and friends,
It was a crazy week! Monday we had to help a member fix their car so that they could go to the noche de hogar. Then we got there late and so the Hermanas took care of it which was good!
Tuesday we taught a members non member mom and we did some finding. We also contacted a referral a member gave us.  We met with someone who is helping us with Sergio's divorce so that Patty and Sergio can get married and baptized!!
Wednesday we did some finding and we visited some less actives. We also taught some lessons.
Thursday we did member splits and taught lots of lessons with members which was really great and was a success.  We also had a really good district meeting where we learned about how we need to be looking, teaching and finding people who fit what it says in Doctrine and Covenants 20:37 which I'll let you all read :-)
On Friday we did weekly planning. We visited some people and did finding and taught some less active members.  Something that we have been noticing is that when we contact people on the street by stopping on our bikes we have been able to get more return appointments and visits then knocking on doors which is really good! We also taught some investigators.
Saturday we watched conference it was soooo amazing!! Patty and Sergio came they are basically just members. The conference sessions were really good I learned a lot! Something that I was really thinking about is true growth of testimony and becoming a true disciple of Christ. I think that's one of the things that really stood out for me. The things I learned will not ony help me as a misisonary but the investigators as well.  The Trejo family is good and Felicitas wasn't able to go to conference but she is good as well. We are just working on finding more people who are ready to hear the gospel because we had to drop a lot of people and re-adjust the way we work on the bike so that we can be more effective.
Sunday we saw conference, we taught some less actives and visited some investigators.
Monday was a weird day. We went and asked members for referrals, knocked on doors and taught lessons.
Today was our temple day and it was quite enjoyable!! I learned a lot in the temple as well! Anyways I love you all and I hope that you are all having a good week!

I love missionary times!!

Dear family and friends,

This last week was great! Monday we had a lesson and a tour! The tour was with the Mancilla family and the lesson was with some really great new-ish investigators named Ericka, Estella and Yair (pronounced yeah ear).
Tuesday we did service with Hermano Reyes and taught a new person that wasn't really interested in our message. Then we taught the Mancilla family again.
Wednesday we went finding and we taught a few lessons. We also had correlation and it was a very good meeting.
Thursday was District Meeting and we learned about diligence. It was a great District Meeting that made me want to be even more diligent then I am being right now! We also taught a bunch of lessons and we went on exchanges. Elder Wight and I stayed in San Gabriel and Elder Carvajal and Elder Rauckhorst were in the other area.
Friday we did weekly planning and we also taught Felicitas' son Johnny and the Trejo family.
Saturday we went finding and we taught the Mancilla's and some new investigators! We also had a mini guys night out where basically we just ate dinner with an hermano while his wife was at the General Relief Society Meeting. Elder Carvajal ate some chili cheese fries for the first time in his life!
Sunday was a great day but we ate sooo much! We were blessed to have Felicitas, the Trejo family, Patty and Sergio at church! We also had a lunch at 2, seviche at 3:30 and then a dinner appointment at 5:30! Let's just say I was feeling it and it was a good thing we were on our bikes so that we didn't throw up! Then we had correlation because Hermano Schleske is going out of town to Utah for General Conference.  This week we have set up a BUNCH of appointments!! I am really excited about that but we will continue to keep finding as well. We really think that Felicitas could be baptized very soon! Ever since we started to teach her she has been walking a mile or two to church for the last 2 weeks! Which definitely means she's interested and likes church! Something that I learned this week has really got me thinking about my missionary service. It's that I'm here to serve Heavenly Father and to invite others to come unto Christ. I should really refine and shape myself and chisel out all the things that are making it so that I'm not a fully committed servant of the Lord. So that is my new goal to focus even more on the work, to be more diligent and to get rid of all the little things that make it so I'm not as much of an effective servant. Just to dedicate even more than I was already but yeah I hope you all are doing well and have a good week!
Cuidense mucho!

Well, a normal week!!

Dear family and friends,

Nothing too exciting happened this week. We just taught Monday and Tuesday and did some service.
Wednesday we taught and we did the WalMart booth again. We found some people who were really ready! We found this lady named Felicitas and she came to church and it was so exciting!! We think she could be baptized pretty soon! She is a member referral from Hermana Cabrerra and so she has some great potential! The WalMart booth wasn't so successful for us. We just ended up giving out like a billion cards and getting some referrals for the English elders. We also had to drop Juan because he keeps leaving for Tijuana and says yo les hablo which means I'll call you.  Usually when people say that it means I don't know when I'll be available and I might call you so we'll just wait to see what happens.  It's ok we will still be here whenever he is ready! We also found a small family of 4 that we are teaching and that have some great potential as well!
Something I am noticing is biking takes a lot of time! I keep forgetting that it takes time to get places. I have got to plan better and not go all over the area so I don't come home so tired and exhausted!  On the upside I am a lot more healthy! haha
Anyway, we also had a good church meeting and I learned a lot in our priesthood class. Elder Carvajal is doing good and he is learning a lot and it's funny that when he doesn't know something in English he says it to me in Spanish so I can translate it into English. He needs to learn and study English for an hour which I have no idea why. I guess they just want people to be bilingual.
The Trejo family are doing good except they aren't coming to church :-(. The Mancilla family are going to take a tour of the church today so we think that will make them want to come to church this next Sunday!
We are doing good and still teaching a lot of lessons! So yeah the work is still good what can i say?  I hope you all are doing well!

Training it's AWESOME

Dear Family and Friends,

It was a great week in San Gabriel and a great week for missionary work!
Monday we had a noche de hogar and had some members bring some of their friends that were not members. It was really great and we did an activity and lesson on albedrio I mean agency! While this was happening I was with Elder Vance. We had to wait until Wednesday to get our companions (trainees). Tuesday we did some contacting and did our WalMart booth and gave the sisters the car.  So now every day I am riding the bike and we usually ride between 20-30 miles per day. We are still teaching lots of lessons and it's really good therapy. It makes you happy and keeps you awake! The WalMart booth was really good and we found some really prepared people but they didn't speak Spanish sadly. We did it at an hour where there were not very many Latinos so next time we will do it a lot better and know what to expect.  We also had some lessons that day.
Wednesday we had a meeting for the trainers and trainees. We started by being separated and they told us that the trainers are who they look for first when they are doing transfers. They look for the best of the best missionaries and who is obedient and can help these missionaries be ready to train by their 3rd transfer. They said the best kind of trainers are those who can have their trainees replace them and do a good job of training as well.  So that made me feel really good to know that! They also talked about the 12 weeks program and that we need to let our trainees help us with the work and then right before the meeting ended we got our companions. We picked up my companions bike and we went to work. We got rides all day Wednesday because my companion has to borrow a bike from the mission. He is from Mexico and it is too expensive to ship a bike internationally. The bike they gave him was bad so we just asked members all day for rides. We also walked a little bit and we had some lessons it was a good day.
Thursday we switched the bikes and had district meeting and the new bike worked and was a good bike. We also had some lessons and it was a good day overall.
Friday we had a 6 hour meeting for trainers and trainees. We talked about a lot of stuff like how we as trainers were called but we need to also be chosen and do the things to deserve that title. We also had a Q&A with President Becerra about how we could train better. President Becerra's son who just came home from a mission gave us some instruction too. It was a great meeting and I learned a lot of stuff! Then we biked and had some lessons it was another good day.
Saturday it was 105 degrees and hot! We did weekly planning and studying now we study for 3-4 hours a day and we taught a less active lesson.
Sunday was a good day. We had great church meetings and we had some lessons. We did some service and scheduled some more appointments to teach some new people. It was a good day! So we are doing really great over here and I am excited because my new companion Elder Carvajal (car va hall) is pre-trained. He is probably going to teach me more things than I will teach him but it is going to be great! Oh also something funny that President Becerra keeps saying when missionaries are disobedient. He says the Lamanite in me just wanted to go over there and bash him on the head! It is super funny! Anyways, I love you all and I hope your having a good week!

G-Reat Times in San Gabriel!

Dear family and friends-

This last week was good again! So, we had some appointments on Monday and we invited our big family to read the Book of Mormon and they said yes!  So basically this week we have been teaching and we found some great investigators! One of them is Felicitas and she was a referral from one of the members. She has been going through a hard time but she wants to meet with us and she accepted an invitation to be baptized when she receives a testimony.  That was cool!
Also, we found these ladies Estella and Ericka and they were also prepared to hear the message and accept a baptismal invitation.  We also have found some great potentials to teach this week.
Tomorrow we have the opportunity to do the Walmart booth so we are going to see if we can find lots more investigators through doing that.  (They have permission from WalMart to set up a booth to contact people)
We also just finished the transfer and I am staying in San Gabriel so my work is not done here yet! (Elder Reisner's companion Elder Bowe's has been transferred.)
Something else that happened that was pretty cool is that we had a zone meeting and we talked about asking inspired questions and it really made me think and want to re-evaluate the way that I teach and ask questions.  I also read this talk by Elder Gene R. Cook and it was called qualifications for the work. In the talk it said we need to have more faith as missionaries and always have a goal to get in the house to share our message and be bold it was a great talk!
Well, this week we are looking to teach a lot and get some more baptismal dates so I am very excited!! Also, I have the opportunity this transfer to train a new missionary!!!! So I am really excited about that!!!! (Things are so busy and they have so many investigators to teach that they have assigned 2 more missionaries to the San Gabriel mission!  2 new sister missionaries should be arriving soon to help with the work!)
Well I love you all and I hope you have a great week!

San Gabriel A lot of good things are happening still!

Dear Family and Friends,
Things are still going good here in San Gabriel and we had a lot of cool things happen this last week! We started off with finding the Latino's in the neighborhood we live in. We thought we only had Chinese neighbors but then we heard a helotero (basically a guy that sells helote and other latino foods). So we went to go figure out if he knew where the Latino's are. Sure enough he said this apartment complex is mostly Latino and a few other places on a street right behind where we live are Latino too! It was really cool!
Then Tuesday we had interviews with President. It is always good to talk to President Becerra he has so many good things to say. He told me that there is definitely another set of missionaries coming in this next transfer! We also went contacting in a park and had a lesson with some less actives.
Wednesday we went and we had a BUNCH of less active lessons and also investigator lessons it was a really good day of teaching!
Thursday we had district meeting and we talked about how we need and can do better about being obedient.  We also had a lot of member present lessons which was really great!
Friday we found a new investigator and we had a noche de hogar with the Ruiz family that went really well! We also taught a man who was visiting from Mexico and he said when he returns he'll call the number that we gave him to get missionaries to come teach him! It was just sad that we couldn't continue to teach him.
Saturday we had to look at apartments because we need a place for the other set of missionaries to stay so we spent most of the day doing that.  We found some really nice apartments for them. We also had a lesson and tried to call and visit all our investigators so that they would come to church the next day.
Sunday was a good day we were blessed with 7 investigators at church again! We also had a lesson with Patty and Sergio who are just so ready to be baptized they just need to get the divorce and the marriage. They also want to get sealed in the temple and they were the only ones out of their family that came to church. They were one of the earliest ones to church too! We also had correlation meeting and we had lessons with Juan.
Yesterday we found some great potentials and we also had a great lesson with the Trejo family, they really opened up. Then we taught the huge family but only 6 of them were there that time with their sister who is a member so that was a pleasant surprise! Anyway, things are looking good here in San Gabriel and I hope things are going good for all of you too!

Great week in San Gabriel!!

Dear family and friends,
This last week was a super great week and I learned a lot of things!  First we set up an appointment with Karen one of our investigators and went by a few other people's houses. Then we had a noche de hogar and we tried to invite the Trejo family but they were not able to go. Then we taught this HUGE family with like 14 people! It was super great!
Tuesday we went and tried to find and get people to come to our English class and we had Hermano Reyes come but he was the only one. Then I had to go to the doctor.  (Elder Reisner has a case of MRSA) Then we had some lessons with Maritza, Juan, and the Perez family.
Wednesday we basically were everybody's home teachers for the ward! Just because we did finding and had 3 lessons with some less active members of the ward.  However, something really cool happened on Wednesday we were tracting in an apartment complex and this guy was just visiting from Mexico. We were going to lend him a Book of Mormon and pick it back up but when he said he was just visiting and wouldn't be able to return it we just gave it to him. We started knocking on other doors and right after that he went and sat on the stairs and just started reading the Book of Mormon right then and there!! He looked really interested in what it had to say I hope he'll go and find missionaries in Mexico and learn more!
Thursday we had district meeting and talked about having  more effective companionship study. It was really good and now Elder Bowes and I will have more effective companionship study.  Thursday also was the day to interview Patty and Sergio. So, President Becerra said he wanted to come out with us from 6-9 at night. Then he called and said he wouldn't make it until 7 so we taught our lesson at 6. We were going to have a different noche de hogar that night.  We invited Juan and the Trejo family but neither of them could make it.  President said he needed to go get gas and the Elders Quorum President was there and he told Elder Bowes to stay there with Hermano Lopez and for me to go with him!! It was pretty cool!! He asked me some questions and whether I thought  there could be another set of missionaries in our area because we have been having so much success.  He was telling me that this area hasn't had this much success in years!!  I told him yes for more missionaries as long as the area wasn't divided. There is a higher concentration of Latinos in other parts of the area so if it was divided one side would have more success then the other.  He also asked me about my companions I had and about my strengths and weaknesses.  We then drove back to the church and picked up Elder Bowes.  Then we went to interview Patty and Sergio at Hermano de los Santos' house. He interviewed Sergio first then called Patty in.  We thought they were married, they told us they were married but not really. Then Patty said to him I told you we should have been married a long time ago!  It was super funny.  President Becerra had to probe them for a bit before he found out that they weren't married. He told us elders you didn't do anything wrong in Latino culture they'll tell you 3 lies before they tell you the truth, I know because I am Latino!!  Then he was thinking of who could help Sergio get a divorce. ( I guess that's why he and Patty aren't married!)  I told him that I have a cousin in L.A. who's an attorney that could help us.  (Terry Higham)  President Becerra gave me permission to call him so I did and now he's helping us with the divorce.
Friday we biked and we had a few lessons and it was a good day.
Saturday we focused on getting everyone to church. We stopped by, called and did everything we could to have people come to church. It was really effective because we actually had 7 investigators at church!! We also taught Patty and Sergio they are ready to be baptized they just need to get married! Same with the Trejo family. They need to get married and come too church then they will be good to go! We are looking to have 8 baptisms in September! Patty, Sergio, Trejo family (4), Juan, and Karen! Things are going really well and this week also looks really good already! I hope you all are doing well and have a great week!

August, The heat is going down but the work is up!!

Dear Family and Friends,
This last week has been another good week!
Monday we taught Karen and the Trejo family they were both good lessons. The Trejo family really are amazing people.  They have accepted a date to be baptized!!  (Elder Reisner didn't share the date with me though!)
Tuesday we had a a really great opportunity. We got a call from an Hermana that is either less active or doesn't go to our ward and she told us that her nephew wanted a blessing from us. She said he wasn't a member so we thought ok we'll go and give him a blessing. Then we show up to the house and there's like 6 people there and they ask us if we would like to share a message and we're like well of course we do!! So we share a message about faith and how people need faith to be healed and then we gave him a blessing. Then we just asked can we come again and talk to you guys and they said yes! So 6 new investigators in one night! Which was good because that day we were knocking and trying to find all day with no luck!
Wednesday we taught a few lessons and just tried to find new investigators.
Thursday was a good day! We had district meeting and then we had a district lunch because it was our district leader's last meeting.  Then we had correlation it was a good one!  Hermano Schleske needed our help because he has been having a hard time lately so we did what we could for him.  Then we had dinner with the Stake President and he called the other Stake President and we got permission to baptize Patty and Sergio! It was so exciting! Their baptism is scheduled for Sunday! Then we had a lesson with Juan and with a family. The lesson with Juan was really good! We told him he could be an example to his brothers and sisters and his whole family by being baptized and he was really excited about that!
Friday we had some lessons, biked and it was a good day!
Saturday was a finding day and we worked with some less actives.
Sunday we had Stake Conference and it was a really good one! We had the Temple President there and President Becerra and his wife speak it was a really good conference. The theme was la obra missional oh sorry translation missionary work! Anyway, President Becerra talked about how his grandfather joined the church and how much impact that had on his whole family.  Then Sister Becerra talked about having the members help us missionaries find. We also had 2 members of the Stake Presidency speak. One talked about having an eternal family and plan of salvation. President Esquerra talked about how he is a convert and how our example can help people want to know more about the gospel. The Temple President talked about how we need to do everything we can to be worthy of a temple recommend and be sealed in the temple.  His wife bore her testimony and the president translated it because she doesn't speak Spanish.  We also had some lessons on Sunday.  So it was a really good week and I learned a lot! I love you all!

Another good week!

Dear family and friends,
This week has been another good week!  It has been really hot here over 100 degrees mostly but we still keep working!
Monday we had a noche de hogar and we had it about faith. Elder Bowes taught a lesson and I did the activity. We had all these chairs scattered all over the gym and then we got some members and told them to walk through the chairs by faith. A lot of them were really apprehensive but they were able to do it! What we did is right as they start walking we move the chairs so they don't walk into them. Then they take the blindfold off and see the path.  I told them to look you can do hard things as long as you have faith! It was a really great noche de hogar!
Tuesday we set up some new things so we can start finding better. We are going to start an English class so we can find more investigators. We will also teach the members of our ward English if they want to learn. We also got permission from Walmart to set up a booth in front of the store.  Then we can contact all the people that go to Walmart and give them cards, flyers, pamphlets, Book of Mormons and all the other stuff we have. We have been using these booths in the mission mostly at colleges but we thought since a lot of people go to Walmart why not try there?!
So we are still doing good and still having a lot of lessons!!!  Patty and Sergio want to get baptized and have a date set for the 26th of August! We are going to talk to President Esquerra (Stake President) to see if they can be baptized in our ward. They live outside our ward boundaries and so we need to get permission from our Stake President and their Stake President as well as the Bishop and President Becerra.  They really want to keep coming to this ward because they have their family in this ward.  They have been coming to our ward for 10 weeks straight!
The Trejo family is a really great family! They went to church last Sunday and they are reading and praying. We have an appointment with them tonight and we are hoping to give them a baptismal date!
Maria is another investigator that came to church and wants to be baptized. She knows the Book of Mormon is true and she really liked church! We hope that these investigators will continue to progress!
We also did better this week at finding because last week we didn't really find anyone new to teach. Anyway, I hope that all of you are doing well and that you all have a great week!

San Gabriel is super great!!

Dear Family and Friends,
This last week was another good week but let me tell you why.  Monday we had a noche de hogar with the Reyes family and it was great!
Tuesday we taught some lessons and tried to find. We also had to pass off a really great investigator to the English elders because she doesn't speak Spanish so that was a little sad.
Wednesday we taught and found and blessed a less active lady's home and family.
Thursday we taught Juan and he is doing good but he is just so difficult at the same time!! He knows what he needs to do then he just doesn't do it! So, we may have to drop him which is sad but necessary. :-(
Friday was crazy bike day! We biked between 20-30 miles!! We were able to contact some referrals and teach some but boy was I exhausted at the end of the day!
Saturday was a good day!! We taught a bunch and we had a good meeting with our ward mission leader. Also, we have an investigator Silvia that we taught. She really wants to go to church but she has 12 sicknesses and spends the day with her family.  So for that she says she can't go to church on Sunday. We are going to have a noche de hogar and she said she could come to that.
Sunday we had church and we taught some lessons and did some finding. We had a good lesson with Patty and Sergio and we really think they will be able to be baptized by the end of this month!! Also, we went to an investigators house. Her name is Maria and we thought we were going to have to drop her.  We actually  helped her to understand that she knows the Book of Mormon is true! She accepted the invitation to be baptized and to come to church the next Sunday which was completely unexpected!! We also are teaching a great family and they are coming to the noche de hogar and are reading the Book of Mormon. They are also going to church and accepted the invitation to be baptized!! So a lot of good things are happening in this area! Especially now that we are inviting everyone to be baptized!  It really helps us to know who is prepared to receive the gospel and who isn't. Then we can work effectively and really teach and baptize the people who are prepared to receive the gospel and really fulfill our purpose!  Anyway, it's really exciting!! I love you all and I hope you all have a great week!

July = Summer, Heat & Zone Conference

Dear Family and Friends,

So transfers were last Sunday and I am still going to be here in San Gabriel which is what I wanted because so many good things are happening!! We have found a great family to teach and people are really close to taking the step to be baptized! Elder Bowes and I really get along well and so that makes it even better! :-) So this last week nothing too exciting happened mostly we are just teaching finding and eating with members! I didn't have anything strange this last week to eat either but it was all yummy!
The exciting thing that happened is that we had Zone Conference and it was really good! Sister Becerra talked about how we can know if we are receiving revelation and how we can better receive it. When we are moving and acting or studying it out in our mind we need to listen for the revelation. Because we can't just stop and be like what do I do now? Where do we go? What do we teach? We have to think about it and then just act. A lot of the times it doesn't matter; what matters more is that we do make a descision.
Then President Becerra told us about the doctrine about why we need to ask people to be baptized in the first lesson. That mission wide we are having a problem with not inviting people to baptism. So now what we are doing is right in the first lesson we are going to invite everyone to be baptized.  We will do it during the first lesson. Not to start off the lesson, we are going to tell them our purpose, how they can get a testimony, then we ask them when you have recieved this testimony will you be baptized?  I think this is great because then we can see who is really ready to recieve the gospel and who really wants to make the step towards baptism.  It was great because twice after Zone Conference we had two first lessons and we invited them just like that and they said yes that they would be baptized when they recieve a testimony!!! Then we did role plays and did the way we can invite people to be baptized right at the beginning of the lesson.
Then we had the Assistant to the President give a lesson about locking our hearts because there has been a problem with missionaries "falling in love" or meeting "the one" on their missions. He told us to lock our hearts and to only love people like the Savior would love them and not to be looking for a wife.  President Becerra told us some of you have been out so long you forgot what true beauty is haha! Thankfully I have not had this problem but it was good advice nonetheless.
We also had a lot of missionaries leaving within the next few weeks so we had 5 missionaries who were leaving bear their testimonies. Their testimonies were so powerful the Spirit was so strong during Zone Conference and I learned a lot!
Also, something else that we did is Elder Bowes and I taught the third hour combined Priesthood and Relief Society lesson on Sunday. We had a member MTC and we talked about how missionaries are there for the spiritual conversion and members are there for the social conversion. We need to work together in order for a person to begin the conversion process. So we did some role plays with the members and showed them that it was really easy to invite people to listen to the gospel or go to church or an activity at church or to listen to the missionaries. Then we did a role play that if the friend of the member doesn't like us then they can just throw us under the bus! So for that role play/demonstration I was the missionary, Elder Bowes was the member and we had a member be Elder Bowes friend. What the situation was is we finished the lesson then I the missionary would say something weird that would make it so that the friend wouldn't want to listen to us anymore.  So I asked so what do you think of what we talked about? The member said it was interesting then I said well wait, I forgot to tell you something. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit it was a pineapple, a big pineapple and this pineapple was really good. Then Elder Bowes cut me off we pretended to pray and then I left. Then Elder Bowes said sorry those guys know a lot but they're weird and they don't represent me. So we told the members to keep their friends and if their friends don't like us they can shove us under the bus!  It was a lot of fun to teach this lesson and I think the members really understand their role better in helping the missionary work progress.
Other than that we've still just been teaching and finding a ton!!! I know it's only because Heavenly Father is preparing these people for the gospel and I am so blessed to be serving where I am now. I love you all!

Another MIRACLE Week!!

Dear Family and Friends,
This last week was crazy!!! It started with us finding 2 new investigators after preperation day was over and then trying to find and teach people.
On Tuesday we taught a few lessons and didn't find anyone new to teach. Unfortunately, we have 2 less invetigators to teach and focus on. That gives us a lot more time to find some new investigators.
Wednesday was super great!! We had a lot of appointments and we found 2 new investigators! Something funny we found out that the FLDS church sends their "revelations" to all the bishops in the world. Our bishop got some mail from them and he said we could see what it was because he didn't have time to look at that mail. So we did it was weird stuff and he told us to burn it so we are! We also taught a part member family and the hermano that is a member said he didn't have ganas I mean desires to go to church. So we are going to try and help them see why it is important to read and to go to church.
Thursday we found a family of 6 to teach!!! It was super cool they were formers that I had never met. They said they were learning 3 years ago and the missionaries just left and never came back! So of course now we are teaching them and they told us to come back on Friday to teach them again! We also taught some more lessons to investigators! We started teaching Juan again. He is doing good and he has just been so busy that he couldn't meet with us.  His work is in landscaping so there busiest time is in the summer.
Friday we had 6 lessons! Also another new investigator!! We also taught one of the friends of our ward mission leader and had to do a member split for an hour because we had 2 appointments at the same time! Saturday we had a mini mission with the youth in our ward that we didn't even know about! We got a text at 8:30 in the morning and then we found out it was at 9:15 in the morning! We actually had 2 young men so we did a split and did some visits and then we had a devotional at the Stake Center. It was really good and the kids really learned a lot from this mini mission experience!! We also had correlation and 2 appointments and one with another family of 3!! So in total we found 13 new investigators!!!
Sunday we had church and taught some lessons and visited the members and I ate Ox Tail. Yes, a tail of an ox it was yummy!! Then we realized we had the best week as far as numbers and teaching go!!! We had 23 lessons and 13 new investigators!!! We only have this success though because we are finding the people that Heavenly Father has prepared for us. We are also doing all that we can to be obedient and focus on the work and keep moving forward!! I am excited for how this next week will turn out. This is the last week of the transfer and I hope I get to stay for another one because a lot of good things are happening in this area!!
I love you all and I hope you have a good week!
Que les vaya bien!

The Miracle Baptisms!!!!!!!!

Dear Family and Friends
This last week has been great!!! On Monday we took bikes and just went and tried to find people. When Preparation Day was over we also taught a less active.
Tuesday we had a busy day we had 2 dinner appointments and other lessons. They were all jam packed together so we were just running around like crazy!
Wednesday we walked and tried to do everything we could to find people because a lot of our appointments have been canceling. So we were out in the 104 degree heat tracting it was pretty successful and we got some return appointments. Then we had mutual and we had appointments at the same time so we did a member split. I went with Hermnao Lopez to go to appointments. What was the miracle about this day is Carmen and Isaac got their marriage license! They still had to have the ceremony for it to be valid so we had to contact the Stake President so he could authorize the bishop to marry them. We weren't sure if that was going to happen. Hermano Lopez and I went to a part member family and they didn't read so we read with them. Then we went to Carmen and Isaac and talked about their baptism. We made the baptism program and they wanted me and Elder Bowes to baptize them!!!!!!! That was cool but I kind of wanted a member to do it so they could be more connected with the ward. They will have other opportunities to get those connections!!
Then on Thursday we had District Meeting which was really good. We talked about our area and our goals it was really great! Then we went tracting and found 3 families to teach! They all said we could come back and teach them it was super great!!! Then we were, well I was stressing out about the wedding and the Stake President hadn't called our bishop back. So we called the Stake President and he answered the phone and said that our bishop was authorized to do the marriage. We called the bishop and he was surprised that President Esquerra answered the phone.  He said Friday night at 8 he could perform the wedding so that was another miracle. Then we went to Carmen and Isaac to talk about their wedding. They were super excited and said they should have been married 20 years ago!
Then Friday we had a lesson with Karen and it went good. She is finally reading but still not coming to church. So we asked why and her mom doesn't want her to go alone. We are going to find a young woman from our ward to help friendship her and bring her to church.  Then we had a mission conference and activity. The mission conference was sooo great!! Elder and Sister Kasteller talked to us about how we need to trust in the Lord and have real growth. They also talked about that sometimes we may be down on the mission but really all our struggles and challenges will be for our good and for our growth! Then Elder Hendrickson an Assistant to the President talked about how if we want progressing investigators we have to be progressing missionaries. That will help us so that we can progress with our investigators.  Then Sister Becerra talked about how we need to have faith to find teach and baptize.  Then President Becerra gave a really powerful talk about how sometimes we need to have a big trial to increase our faith. He talked about the widow who fed the Prophet Samuel. After that we then had a discussion of how we need to put the Lords will before our own and we need to have that great faith so that we can find, teach, baptize and double the baptisms! Then we had an activity it was sooo fun!!! We had all sorts of water games a water balloon toss, water kickball and everyone got wet! President Becerra looked for the dry missionaries and told them to come give him a hug while other missionaries got a bucket of water and dumped it on them!! It was funny! Then we had a basketball three point shooting contest. All the Zone Leaders picked the best 2-4 players from their zone. They shot 10 shots and whoever made the most won and guess who won?  It was President Becerra!! He made 8 out of 10 it was cool!! Then we went back to working and we got a few appointments. Then we had the wedding and actually for such short notice we had a lot of members there to support Carmen and Isaac for their decision to get married!!!
Then Saturday we went and found and did some service by helping a less active with the headlights in his car. Then we had weekly planning.  Then Carmen and Isaac had their baptism interviews. They are so humble, they have been through a lot of hard things. To top it all off on Saturday their vehicle broke down! Hermano Lopez was able to pick them up for their interview so everything still worked out. Elder Alworth the District Leader almost cried because of how humble they are and how willing they are to get baptized. We then had a dinner appointment and did some finding.
Sunday we had church and we had 4 investigators at church Carmen, Isaac, Patty and Sergio!!! We made programs and invited all the members to the baptism.  We then had a lesson with Patty and Sergio they are close to being baptized as well.  They haven't gotten an answer yet if that's what they should do.  Then we had the baptism it was crazy! We didn't know if there were baptism clothes so we had to go to another ward to get clothes. We picked 3 different jumpsuits for Isaac and thank goodness one of them fit!! The last one he tried of course! Then we had the baptism service, the talks were amazing and the Spirit was so strong! I had the opportunity to baptize Carmen. She said the water was too hot so we ran the cold water and I was in the font trying to mix the water around it was kind of funny to see! Then I had to do the ordinance twice because she didn't go down all the way. The second time she did it was great! Isaac was so funny he wanted to be baptized as soon as he got to the stake center he said estoy listo = I'm ready! They really were so ready and it was a pleasure to teach and to baptize them and to see all the miracles that took place because Elder Bowes and I exercised our faith we saw miracles happen!!! I know that when we are doing everything we can to be faithful we have to act. I know when we are exercising our faith and doing the things that our Heavenly Father wants us to do then we can see the miracles! I love you all so much and I hope you are all having a great summer!
Que les Vaya Bien!
